Natl board to steer initiatives under rally for rivers

A national board comprising eminent persons from different spheres has been formed to steer various initiatives taken under the 'Rally for Rivers' programme.

The programme is a nation-wide campaign by Isha Foundation here covering 7,000 km traversing 16 states to save rivers in the country.

It was inaugurated on September three here by union minister Harsh Vardhan and it would culminate in Delhi on October two.

A draft of river rejuvenation policy was handed over to the Chief Ministers of some states, Sadhguru, the founder of Isha Foundation, said.

The national board would interface with governments and other stakeholders, including industries, farmers, voluntary organisations and experts in the process of evolving framework of policies and programmes in the areas of augmentation of water availability, water use efficiency and waste water reuse, he said.
 

One of the primary focuses of the board would be to evolve economically sustainable models that substantially augment farmers income, he said in a release.

Besides Sadguru, the board consists among others retired Supreme Court Judge Justice Arijit Pasayat, Biocon chairperson and Managing Director Kiran Muzumdar-Shaw, Secretary General and CEO of World Wildlife Fund Ravi Singh and former secretary in the ministry of Water Resources, River development and Ganga rejuvenation Shashi Shekhar.
