New Delhi, Feb 20 (PTI) Defence Minister A K Antony today

reviewed the progress on various steps taken to enhance coastal security. He urged the officers to expedite the Phase-II of Coastal Security Initiatives which would translate into a robust and gap free maritime domain awareness. Under the second phase of the project, 36 new coastal radars are being installed along the coastline to check and prevent any 26/11-type incident in the future. Stressing on the importance of intelligence gathering, Antony said fishermen are the eyes and ears for overall coastal security and they should be made an integral part of all our security planning. "Antony called for urgent and immediate action possible from all stakeholders in matters of coastal security and wanted all concerned to work in a coordinated manner so as to ensure a seamless and robust coastal security mechanism," the Ministry said. The meeting was attended by Defence Secretary Shashi Kant Sharma and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral DK Joshi along with other senior officials from Ministry.
