India has new partnership with Egypt in areas of political security, economic engagement, scientific collaboration, cultural exchanges and people to people contacts, Indian envoy here said today.

"What is really shows that Egypt is very important partner for us in the region we recognise the tremendous that Egypt had played over time in regional affairs. Tremendous condition that it is made. And the great potential for crafting the future framework for regional affairs and we look forward for closer partnership in this," Ambassador Sanjay Bhattacharyya told PTI.

"For a very long time, India and Egypt have shared close partnership and many remarkable events in the history of both countries can witness this great partnership," he said.

The partnership was there since the days of Nehru and Naser and actually even before that and when there was correspondence between the great poets Taghour and Ahmed Shawki or between Zaghloul and Gandhi so it is a very old relationship, he said.

"In the last few decades, particularly during the last two decades, there have been big changes in the world as well as big changes in both India and Egypt. So we needed to redefine in a sense what this new partnership for us will be because for us relationships had never been confined to only between India and Egypt. It was also what it meant for the regions around us," the Ambassador said.

"I think over the last several months we have been able to redefine this partnership and as my Prime Minister said it is new partnership and a new era," Bhattacharyya said.

The new partnership between the two countries is built on three principle pillars; the political security, economic engagement and scientific collaboration and the third pillar is cultural exchanges and people to people contacts, according to the Ambassador.

"India has been experiencing strong economic growth over the last couple of decades. And I think our political social system is relatively stable and has been strengthened over time we are in a very position that we are keen in participating in regional and global affairs. We are now looking at our principal partners to be. And in that we see Egypt as key major power in this region," he said.

Culture is also a major field in which both countries are interested in developing it and creating new ways to promote it.

"We need to work together in areas where India has achieved excellence for instance in IT, in health, space or agriculture, so there are the areas through which our relationships will improve," the Ambassador said.
