Newborn found in anthill

A newborn girl was found dumped on an anthill with red ants stinging her in the remote village of Veerajakkammal Puram in the district.

Spotting the crying newborn, unable to bear ant bites in the anthill yesterday, residents of the village near Periyakulam informed police, who rushed her to the Government Medical College Hospital here.

Doctors at the hospital said the baby had suffered swelling on her face and other body parts caused by ant bites.

They said the baby was recuperating quickly and her weight was normal.
