The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today issued a notice to Jharkhand government over reports of students being allegedly made to consume liquor and watch blue films at a tribal residential School in Kudroom area of the state.
According to an official statement released today, a notice has been issued to the state Chief Secretary calling for a report within four weeks in this regard.
The notice was issued after the Commission took suo motu cognisance of a media report that in a tribal residential school in Kudroom, Garhwa, Jharkhand, children were made to consume liquor and watch blue films.

Reportedly, when the District Welfare Officer took action against the peon, who had been instrumental in doing all this, the students created ruckus.
"Reacting to this, the Principal of the school said that it is wrong to implicate the peon in the matter. The children were born there with liquor in their mouth. Except a few persons, everybody consumed liquor in the school, including the students and teachers," the statement said.
According to the newspaper report on September 12, 2014, the matter came to light when a team led by an NGO visited the school on complaints of irregularities in the supply of midday meal.
The Commission has observed that the contents of the news report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights.
