National Human Rights Commission today issued a notice to Tamil Nadu government, seeking an explanation on usage of Education Cess provided by the Union Government for improving facilities in schools.
In a letter to Chief Secretary K Gnanadesikan, NHRC asked him to inform them how the government was using its share of the cess and also to state how much amount remained unused, NHRC said in a statement.
The Commission, taking cognizance of the complaint by an NGO, which had alleged that a huge amount of education cess remained unused, gave the state four weeks time to respond.
