National Institute of Fashion Technology (Bangalore) has been a key player in practice of grassroots fashion, its Director V Sivalingam said today.
"With over 25 years of existence, NIFT has been instrumental in building a global platform and outreach, not only for our stalwart alumni, but also for our rich and varied arts and crafts.
"Today NIFT stands tall for creating seamlessness and bringing about participative design education," Sivalingam said at NIFT Bangalore's 2014 convocation function.

He said "carrying forth this vision and value, NIFT Bangalore has been a key player in practice of its commitment to grassroots fashion."
"The vibrant and indigenous crafts of Karnataka provide the ideal palette for the multi-hued canvas that the cluster development programmes envisage; crafts and handloom clusters like Channapatna, Kollegala, Hampi, Anekal, have been associated with NIFT Bangalore, bringing in active participation from young students at NIFT, as well as strong impetus to design interventions that may add value to their products," he added.
Wishing graduating students the best in their career Vice-Chancellor of Mysore University Prof K S Rangappa, who was the Chief Guest at the convocation, described fashion technology as a combination of both arts and science.
NIFT student of the year award was presented to Vanshika Saigal, while NIFT extraordinary service award was given to Harshit Srivastava.
Degrees were presented to students who graduated in various streams like fashion design, accessory design, fashion communication, knitwear design and textile design.
