Nine killed as under construction building collapses

"Nine persons have been killed. We are clearing the debris now. Some are admitted in the hospital," Kancheepuram Superintendent of Police S Manoharan told PTI over phone.

All the victims in the incident, that occurred around 4 pm, are believed to be hailing from Odisha, he said.

The workers were involved in the construction of an auditorium in the institution located in Kunnam near Sunguvarchathiram in Kancheepuram district, he said.

The injured have been admitted to the Kancheepuram Government Hospital, he said, adding, rescue teams have been pressed into service.
