Assam government today clarified that there has been no change in the language policy of the state government which is governed by the provisions of Assam Official Language Act, 1960.
The government said that Assamese shall be used for "official purposes of the state at the state secretariat and the offices of the Heads of the Departments".
The government order said that "Bengali language shall be used for administrative and other official purposes up to district level in Cachar district".
Assam government on September nine had withdrawn Assamese as the official language of the Barak valley which had created confusion in the other areas of the state.
