Siliguri Municipal Corporation Mayor and senior CPI(M) leader Ashok Bhattacharya today alleged that the police did not come to his rescue when he and other party leaders were "attacked" by TMC supporters.
Bhattacharya, alleged that he and Darjeeling district convenor of CPI(M) Jibesh Sarkar and party activists were "attacked" yesterday by TMC supporters when they brought out a rally to protest vandalisation of a CPI(M) party office at Balason Bazar near Siliguri city but the police did not come to their rescue.
Bhattacharya claimed that several left activists were injured in yesterday's 'attack' on the rally and he had tried to contact the Commissioner of Police of Siliguri police commisionerate Manoj Verma during the trouble for police protection but Verma did not take the call.

North Bengal Development minister and TMC leader Goutam Deb, however, denied the allegations made by Bhattacharya and wondered if it was so then why neither Sarkar nor Bhattacharya suffered any injury in the attack.
Deb instead alleged that Bhattacharya was orchestrating drama for political reasons.
