An app that helps you find a suitable date from within a chosen geographic location has been developed in the US.

The app called 'Tinder' runs through the user's Facebook profile, transposing five pictures, the user's age, mutual friends, and the "about" section.

The app then displays users of the desirable gender from within the chosen geographic radius using GPS.

Based on their photos and the brief biography, users can decide whether they would want to date that person, tapping a green heart if the answer is yes or a red X if its a negative answer.

If two users "like" each other, Tinder declares a "match" and a private forum is opened where the pair can flirt, exchange information and arrange a date, 'stuff.Co.Nz' reported.

"Our most prominent demographic is 18-24. There are a lot of apps that help you connect with people you know. But meeting new people is challenging," said Tinder chief executive Sean Rad, a University of South California graduate.
