Press Trust of India Salem
: Two men posing as constables relieved an octogenarian and his wife of 13 sovereigns of jewellery at post and telegraph colony, police said today.

They said the couple were returning to their residence on a two wheeler last evening after inspecting work at their new house at Chinnatirupathy when two helmet wearing 'constables' came near them on a bike and said it was not safe to wear so much jewellery.

They were asked to remove the jewellery and hand it over, which the duo wrapped in a newspaper and handed it to them a short while later.

On their return, the couple were shocked to find that the jewellery given to them was roll gold and immediately informed police.

No arrests had been made so far, police said.
