Local residents of the Kulinpara area of Khardaha in the northern fringes of the city today found a sack full of old Rs 500 denomination notes, dumped in a shallow pond in the locality, the police said.
"We were informed by the residents and a team recovered the sack and it was found after counting that the sack was full of old Rs 500 denomination notes worth Rs 3,92,500. The residents of the locality could not identify any person dumping the sack in the pond," said a senior police officer of Khardaha police station.
Senior North 24 Parganas district police officers said the matter was being probed and the notes have been seized.
