One person died in a clash between Trinamool Congress and CPI(M) trade union activists at Jamuria in Burdwan district.

Assitant Commissioner of Police, Asansol Commisionerate, Souvonik Mukhopadhyay said Hiralal Bauri (45) was killed in the clash between the two sides last night.

The trade union wing of CPI(M)'s CITU claimed Hiralal was their supporter and he was beaten with bamboo poles and iron bar by the INTTUC activists, who suddenly attacked a peaceful agitation by CITU on wage-related demands in the colliery area.

INTTUC denied the charge and said the CITU activists turned violent and attacked the TMC trade wing supporters standing nearby.

The police official, however, said the political identity of the deceased was not known.

Tension escalated in the area.
