Egyptian security forces shot dead a militant and arrested 16 wanted terrorists during a raid in the restive North Sinai province bordering Gaza, a military spokesperson said today.
16 wanted terrorists were arrested and five tunnel openings into Rafah in Gaza were also destroyed in yesterday's raid, spokesperson Mohamed Samir said.
North Sinai has witnessed many violent attacks by Islamist militants since the January 2011 revolution that toppled President Hosni Mubarak's regime.

Often targeted at police and military personnel, the attacks have increased in frequency after the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi last year.
Many policemen and soldiers have lost their lives in these attacks.
