: The Home department had placed a proposal to the Karnataka government to set up an open jail on a 40 acre land at Konaje in Dakshina Kannada district to enhance accommodation facilities for prisoners, Home Minister and KPCC president G Parameshwar said here today.
The department would urge the Chief Minister and Finance Minister to include the proposal in next year's budget,he said addressing a press meet after visiting the district prison where two convicts were murdered in clashes on November 2.
Parameshwar held talks with officials, jail staff and inmates on the murders of criminals Madoor Isubu and his associate Ganesh Shetty in the jail.

He said the ADGP (Prisons) Kamal Pant and senior officials are enquiring into the murders.
The minister said the department was also considering amendments to the jail manual to suit the changing times.
Changes would be made in the present laws and made applicable to all the jails in the state, he said.
Besides posting 20 CISF personnel outside the district prison, CCTV cameras and network jammers would soon be installed there, he said.
Forests Minister and District in-charge Ramanath Rai, Mohiuddin Bava and J R Lobo MLAs were also present.
This was Parameshwar's first visit to the coastal region since he assumed office as Home minister in the recent reshuffle of the Siddaramaiah cabinet.
