Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa today acknowledged the resentment among partymen following the re-constitution of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) last month and said he was open to review the existing list by the party high command.
"There has been resentment among party workers... This is to happen as it has been a generational change featuring the newly re-constituted PPCC," Bajwa said after chairing the maiden meeting of the re-constituted committee here.
Referring to few names, including that of senior party leader Choudhary Jagjit Singh, who had offered to resign from the new PPCC, he said, "Names of their sons figure in the new list... It's a generational change."
He ruled out that the dissension was brewing due to a "huge list".
"It's not due to the huge list... Not at all... In fact representations have been given to all sections in the new PPCC," he said.
Bajwa, however, said that he was open to the review of the existing list by party high command and said that the newly re-constituted PPCC had reposed faith in his leadership in its maiden meeting here.
On resignations and displeasures expressed by some party leaders on the re-constituted PPCC, he said, "I have recommendatory powers... The decision is not taken by me... It's a collective decision of all the senior leaders of the party... The list had been finalised by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi."
Talking about former Chief Minister Beant Singh's grand daughter Gurkanwal Kaur's threat to sit on a fast in protest of the new PPCC, Bajwa said she should have contacted him instead of resorting to such things.
Saying that he had himself approached many partymen to redress their grievances, Bajwa claimed that majority of the members of the new PPCC participated in its maiden meeting.
Among those who could not make it to the meeting included sitting MLAs Kewal Singh Dhillon and Gurkirat Singh.
Besides, former chief ministers Amarinder Singh, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal among others were conspicuous by their absence.
