Over 500 rounded up during storming operation

More than 500 persons were detained during a storming operation and vehicle check conducted across the city last night by the police.

While 488 persons were detained based on suspicion, Police booked 79 persons for drunken driving and held two others under the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code during drive, a police release said.

Several police teams were involved in the exercise spread across the greater Chennai limits which comprises suburban localities as well.

Lodges and boarding houses were also checked to find if anti-socials or those wanted in court cases were hiding in such places, it added.
