A group of Pakistani Hindus, who have been residing here for several years, submitted a memorandum to the district magistrate today in which they have urged the Indian government to grant them citizenship.

The Hindu families, led by All India Hindu Shiv Sena president Surinder Kumar Billa, met the district magistrate and told him that they have been residing in the district for over a decade and do not want to return to Pakistan claiming that they were not "treated well" in their home country.

Bitta, whose organisation has been working for Pakistani Hindus for many years, said the Pakistani passports of these people have expired and their children have also been born and raised here.

Over 200 such families are residing in Jalandhar.
