: Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today said the upcoming medical college in Palakkad district under the Scheduled Caste Department will become fully functional within two years.
The construction of the academic block will be over by the end of this month and the tender for the construction of the main block of the hospital would be notified in August, an official release said.
Chandy at a meeting held to discuss the progress of setting up the Medical College, instructed officials to complete the work of the main block in two years.

He also gave permission to start the first batch of MBBS course in September this year.
The meeting also decided to earmark 70 per cent of the seats to SC students and the rest to the general category.
The medical college in Palakkad will function as an autonomous institution.
Besides Chandy, the meeting was attended by Health Minister V S Sivakumar and Minister for Scheduled Caste A P Anil Kumar.
