Panel set up to monitor flood control measures in Delhi

As part of initiatives to deal with any eventuality during monsoon, a committee was set up today to recommend, supervise and coordinate flood control measures in the national capital in the wet season.

The panel in question was formed by the Apex Committee under Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung.

Also, a detailed Flood Control Order, 2014, containing the action plan to deal with flood and laying down the roles and responsibilities of various agencies was released by MP Meenakshi Lekhi, who stressed on the need for the mapping of vulnerable areas and preparation of an action plan for those.

She also laid an emphasis on rainwater harvesting and creation of water reservoirs in Delhi.
 

The Apex Committee includes all MPs from Delhi, the Delhi Chief Secretary, General Officer Commanding (Delhi area), Vice Chairman of Delhi Development Authority and heads of the departments concerned.

The panel also reviewed the work on the desilting of drains undertaken by various agencies.

The availability and functioning of pumping stations and mobile pump sets to be utilised by MCD, NDMC, PWD, DDA and Delhi Jal Board to pump out water during monsoon was also reviewed.
