The Syndicate of Panjab University today approved the fee hike of five per cent for all courses of the varsity from the next academic session.

The fee hike will be subject to a minimum increase of Rs 500 and maximum of Rs 1,200 for all courses of the varsity teaching departments and its regional centres for the session 2015-16.

"The Syndicate members felt the necessity of nominal hike in the fees as it has not been increased for many years. However, the upper limit was restricted to Rs 1,200 against the proposed Rs 1,500 as the maximum limit," a PU release said here.

Meanwhile, a committee would be constituted to consider the introduction of "Domestic Violence against Women and Children", as a separate compulsory qualifying paper at the undergraduate level, the PU Syndicate decided on another proposal.
