Expressing concern over the quality of education being imparted in Universities and colleges, a Parliamentary panel has suggested establishing a system for creating a system of performance audit of teachers.

In its 279th report tabled in the Parliament today, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on HRD noted that there is no mechanism for ensuring accountability and performance of teachers in universities and colleges.

"The committee feels it is high time that such a mechanism is introduced in our university system," and suggested a performance audit based on feedback given by students, peers and teachers.

In another report regarding the department of school education which too was tabled today, the panel also expressed that the total number of untrained teachers recruited is very high at 7,45,327.

The panel asked the department of school education and literacy under HRD ministry to impart training to these teachers.
