Pathankot mining officer suspended for negligence

The general manager-cum-mining officer of Pathankot district has been placed under suspension on charges of negligence in duty by Punjab Industries Minister Madan Mohan Mittal, an official release stated here today.

After ordering suspension of Pathankot general manager- cum-mining officer Dharampal Bhagat, the minister said the government is contemplating to constitute a Special Task Force which would visit sites to keep a check on illegal mining.

Presiding over a meeting of general managers-cum-mining officers of all districts, the minister directed the officials to take strict action against illegal mining and said more vehicles would be provided for field inspections.

Mittal said no crushing unit would be allowed in the state without proper registration under the mining policy.
 

The minister also appealed to the people to approach district mining officers if they found any violation in their areas.
