In view of the forecast that heat wave is likely to sweep Maharashtra in the next few days, the state government today asked people, especially those from Vidarbha, Marathwada and central regions, to take adequate precautions to tackle heat.
"We have a forecast of heat wave starting today till May 21. Average temperatures in the state, specially in these three regions, are expected to rise by about 2 to 3 degrees," Suhas Diwase, director disaster management cell told PTI.
"We have issued directives to the District Collectors asking them to ensure that people should take preventive steps," the official said.

"People should avoid going out in the sun between 12 PM and 3 PM. They should also drink more water, even if they are not feeling thirsty," he added.

Meanwhile, heat wave conditions continued in Vidarbha region of the state even as Akola sizzled at 46.3 degrees Celsius while Nagpur experienced 'the hottest day' of this summer, a MeT official said today.
Nagpur recorded a maximum temperature of 45.9 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal.
The heat wave will continue for the next three days, MeT department said.
The maximum temperatures recorded in Wardha, Amravati, Bramhapuri were 46, 44.4 and 44.3 degrees Celsius respectively.
