The Madras High Court today ordered issue of notice to Additional Government Pleader to get instructions from government on a PIL to implement provisions of the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Begging Act.

The First Bench, comprising the Acting Chief Justice Sathish K Agnihotri and Justice K K Sasidharan then posted the matter after four weeks on the PIL filed by one advocate K Ezhil Murugan.

The petitioner alleged that the act of begging in public was being carried on not only by a section of people but also by people at large who find it convenient to earn without any efforts and referred to news reports about a beggar who died and was found to be having several lakhs of rupees concealed in a hidden place.

He referred to a judgment delivered by the Court in which the Government was directed to start Beggar Homes to eradicate begging and measures to be taken for implementing the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Begging Act.

He said the DGP should take steps by directing subordinate officers for eradication of begging.

The petitioner then prayed for a direction to issue appropriate orders to implement the provisions of the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Begging Act.
