Press Trust of India Madurai
: A Public Interest Litigation petition, seeking a direction to repair 'dilapilated' buses of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation in Kanyakumari district was filed today in the Madras High Court bench here.

Petitioner P Puhazh Gandhi said it was risky to travel in the buses in the district, where even the condition of the brakes was bad and roads had many ups and downs.

He charged TNSTC officials with not repairing the buses, which frequently get stuck on the roads, leading to traffic jams.

Gandhi alleged the buses did not have even have proper roofs and that there were cracks and gaping holes in the floorboard.

He said despite representations, the officials had not taken any steps to repair the buses and sought the court's intervention to ensure the safety of passengers by directing TNSTC to renovate the buses.
