Delhi Police today claimed to have solved the burglary at Holy Child Auxilium School at Vasant Vihar in South Delhi in February this year with the arrest of one of the accused.

The accused Rahul Moirangthem, 19, was arrested yesterday by a Special Task Force (STF) after much scientific and professional investigation pooling the expertise of CBI and CFSL laboratory, Hyderabad, said Premnath, DCP of South Delhi district police.

The burglary had taken place at the school on the intervening night of February 12/13. The burglars had managed to decamp with Rs 12,500 and a few cell phones from the rooms of Principal and Accountant.

An FIR was registered at Vasant Vihar police station but later investigation was transferred to the STF on April 6.

An 18 member STF team was formed to crack the case which examined the CCTV footage of the school.

There was no trace of vandalism at the scene of crime. The sacred symbols and pictures were intact and untouched, said the officer.

The teams of CFSL and CBI had lifted 26 chance prints from different places in the room from where the property was stolen.

A burglary case with similar modus operandi was reported from Mount Carmel School in South Campus area on May 29. Three persons including Rahul were apprehended by the police personnel deployed for security of the institution.

The modus operandi adopted by the accused in the Mount Carmel School was similar to Holy Child School case.

The STF team visited the spot and interrogated the arrested persons.

The finger prints of the accused in Mount Carmel were sent by STF for comparison with the chance prints picked up by the CFSL CBI on February 13, from Holy Child Auxilium School.

On June 30, the CFSL CBI, reported that the chance prints picked up from Holy Child Auxilium School matched with that of the thumb impression of Rahul Moirangthem.

Receiving this critical scientific evidence, the STF team called Rahul for interrogation on July 11 and subsequently placed him under arrest next day.

He disclosed during interrogation that he would visit Vasant Vihar market along with his friends to watch movies often and on February 12 night after consuming alcohol he along with his two friends scaled the walls of Holy Child Auxilium School and committed the theft, added the officer.
