Police official injured in clash over WhatsApp message

Members of two communities clashed over an allegedly objectionable social media message here last night, leaving a senior police official injured.

Tension prevailed in two areas of the town after a man called Rahul Jain was attacked over an allegedly objectionable WhatsApp message.

It led to a clash between members of two communities who indulged in stone-pelting, police said.

Additional Superintendent of Police Shanu Aftab Ali was injured as a stone hit him in the head.

Ali told reporters that the police brought the situation under control immediately.

"The situation is under control. A case (of rioting and relevant offences) was registered against eight persons," he said.
 

Security in the town has been beefed up, the additional SP said.
