Police seizes liquor being smuggled to Uttar Pradesh

Huge quantity of illicit liquor, allegedly being smuggled from Haryana to poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, seized at Apsara border in trans-Yamuna area of the city and one person has been arrested, police said today.

On specific information, a vehicle loaded with 150 cartons (7200 bottles of 180 ml) of liquor, was flagged down last evening near Apsara border by a police, DCP (Shahdara) Nupur Prasad said.

During the search, liqour being transported from Haryana to poll-bound Uttar Pradesh was recovered.

Jaideep, driver of the vehicle and a resident of Sonepat in Haryana, has been arrested, she said.

The driver told police that he and his associate Anil were allegedly involved in illegal sale of liquor, the DCP said, adding that Jaideep used to get Rs 500 from Anil for one round of smuggling illicit liquor.
 

The accused were involved in supply of liquor to Uttar Pradesh which is going to polls, said the officer.
