Poppy husk worth Rs 1.5 cr seized in MP

The police have seized poppy husk worth about Rs 1.5 crore being transported illegally in a truck in the district, an official said today.

A police team was deployed for routine checking at Fatehgarh on Mhow-Neemuch four-lane road here when the truck driver, upon noticing the security personnel, left the vehicle and fled from the spot last night, Bhaugarh police station in-charge Shrigopal Suryawanshi told reporters today.

During a search, the police found 105 bags carrying poppy husk placed in the truck between sacks of de-oiled cakes of soyabean.

The seized poppy husk weighed over 26 quintals and was worth around Rs 1.5 crore, he said.
 

The truck belongs to a man from Jodhpur in neighbouring Rajasthan, he said.

A search has been launched for the absconding truck driver, the police official added.
