Prez presents Indira Gandhi National Service Scheme Awards

President Pranab Mukherjee today presented the Indira Gandhi National Service Scheme Awards for the year 2014-15 to individuals, universities and volunteers for their active participation in tree plantation, blood donation and social awareness camps.

In the University category, Dr Achyutanand Malviya of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Kundan Basavaraj of Kuvempu University and and R N Kapre of Babasaheb Ambedkar University received Indira Gandhi NSS Award (Appreciation) for their educational institutes.

Abdul Jannar Ahamed, Programme Coordinator of Directorate of Technical Education in Kerala was awarded with Indira Gandhi NSS Award as Best University and Rabi Akula of NSS Cell of Mahatma Gandhi University was awarded with Indira Gandhi award for Best Upcoming University.
 

In the programme officer category, 10 officials received the award while 32 "volunteers" received the award in another category.

The awards are given to people and institutions for their contribution in running literacy camps, blood donation camps, spreading awareness of diseases like HIV, cancer, tree plantation and environmental awareness.
