A 43-year-old property dealer was today shot at by two unidentified men at his office in east Delhi's Krishna Nagar, police said.

The victim, Sanjay Mehta, was admitted to a private hospital in Patparganj where his condition is said to be serious, they said.

The incident took place around 1.40 PM when Mehta was in his office on Old Police Station Road in Krishna Nagar here from where he runs his real estate business.

Two men arrived there on a motorcycle and one of them, wearing a helmet, went inside.

The assailant shot at Mehta and fled the scene with his accomplice.

"One person went inside Mehta's office while the other waited on the motorcycle. The one who went inside was asked by Mehta to take off his helmet. Instead, the assailant took out a pistol and fired once at Mehta. The bullet hit him in the abdomen," a senior police official said.

While the incident was captured by a CCTV camera installed at the victim's office, no suspects have been identified or arrested yet, police said.

Police said they are scanning the CCTV footage minutely for clues about the assailants.

A case of attempt to murder has been registered at the police station in Krishna Nagar against unknown persons, police said, adding that business or personal rivalry is suspected to be the reason behind the attack.

While Mehta's family and friends are being questioned about any possible enmity, his statement will be recorded only after doctors declare him fit for it, they added.
