Protect cotton crop from whitefly,leafhopper insects: advisory

Warning against attacks by insects, agricultural experts today asked farmers in Haryana to take preventive measures to protect their crops.

Farm scientists of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, advised cotton-gorwers about Whitefly and Leafhopper, two insects that attacked crops during the season as current humid weather was conducive for their infestation.

"The farmers are advised to monitor leafhopper and whitefly in cotton crop and to apply control measures only at above economic threshold when weather is clear," an official spokesman of the varsity said.

A few areas in cotton growing areas in Haryana have witnessed incidence of the attack of whitefly recently.
 

The farm scientists also advised farmers to "do hoeing in cotton crops for conserving the moisture", he said.

The farmers were advised to monitor the infestation of leafhopper in rice or paddy crop and spray as per recommendations, he said.

Farmers were also advised to apply irrigation with fertilizers and weed control measures in sugarcane crop, do hoeing in guar, bajra and pulses for conserving the moisture, the spokesman said.

Farmers are advised to transplant the fruit plants in field after sufficient soil moisture, he said.
