Senior IPS officer Rajan Gupta was today appointed as the new chief of the important central police research organisation-- BPRD, over six months after the top post fell vacant.
Gupta, a 1978-batch Punjab cadre officer, will be at the helm of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) till his superannuation in March 2015.
The officer at present is serving as the DG of Punjab State Human Rights Commission.
The post of the BPRD Director General was being held in an additional capacity till now by CISF chief Rajiv since the begining of this year.
The last full-time DG for the organisation, Gujarat cadre IPS officer K N Sharma, had retired on December 31, 2012.
The BPRD has a multifarious role in developing new techniques and inducting modern technology for police forces across the country, both at the central and state levels, and a regular chief for this organisation is considered essential as he chalks out new plans and strategies for the agency.
