Punjab today became the first state to sign an MoU with the National Skill Development Council in healthcare sector in presence of Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal, who hoped to showcase the state as a model in the field.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the state government has already taken several initiatives in imparting skills to the unemployed youth by giving them training in the fields of healthcare and para medics.

Badal said Punjab has always accorded the highest priority to the health sector and has already launched many skill courses in medical colleges of Amritsar, Faridkot and Patiala.

He also pointed out that Punjab has been rated 'excellent' by the central government in healthcare infrastructure, a statement from the state government said here.

The MoU was inked between the Punjab government and Health Sector Skill Council, an arm of the National Skill Development Council (NSDC).

He hoped that the MoU would prove to be a milestone in upgrading the existing courses and infrastructure besides enabling the unemployed youth to have fairly better chances of gainful employability due to their wider acceptability in the health sector.

In his address Chairman of Healthcare Sector Skill Council Naresh Trehan hoped that the partnership would help in bridging the skill gap currently existing in the healthcare sector and would also prove to be a boon for the unemployed youth for getting gainful employment.
