Punjab to set up four world-class sports centres: Sukhbir

In order to promote sports in Punjab, four world-class centres of excellence in sports would be set up at Amritsar, Bathinda, Mohali and Jalandhar, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said here today.

Addressing a gathering here at the concluding day of the 22nd All India Baba Farid Gold Cup Hockey, he said that the state government has taken adequate steps to promote sports in Punjab.

The budget for sports in Punjab has been enhanced from Rs 12 crore to Rs 142 crore during 2013-14, he added.

To ensure world-class facilities in the upcoming centers of excellence, hi-tech training to sportspersons and professional coaches would be made available, he said.
 

The government would focus on maximum participation of the players in the Olympics, he said.

To further promote kabbadi in Punjab, he said that the 4th World Kabbadi Cup would be organised in the state from November 9 to 23.

He said that the basic amenities like sewerage and drinking water facilities would be available in Faridkot.
