A day after a goods train derailed near Dahanu Road station in Palghar district, the Western Railway restored the rail traffic operation in both the directions as the down line was opened today.

The up line was restored yesterday and today around 10.45 AM, our team of engineers successfully restored the services in down direction too, WR spokesman Ravindra Bhakar said.

"The restoration of services has taken place with speed restriction in the affected area and it may take another day to normalise the traffic," he said.

Yesterday, about 38 long-distance trains were cancelled and dozens rescheduled after a goods train derailed near Dahanu Road station in Palghar district that disrupted traffic on the rail link to Mumbai.

There were no casualties in the mishap.

Due to unavailability of the rakes, as many as 11 trains were cancelled while 14 trains rescheduled and 5 long distance trains short-terminated and reversed from there, Bhakar said.

According to him, the goods train was heading for Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh from Mumbai when some of the containers derailed.
