P Y Rajendra Kumar, retired Director of Department of Public Libraries of Karnataka, has been appointed as the Director General of National Library in Kolkata.
Rajendra Kumar has been appointed to the post on contract basis for a period of three years, a statement from Culture Ministry said.
Before being appointed as the Director General of National Library Kolkata, he worked in various capacities in Department of Public Libraries in Karnataka and retired as its Director in 2008.

Post retirement, he worked as Administrative Consultant at the Southern Regional Centre of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts in Bangalore for 18 months.
He, then joined Asian Fab Tech Ltd in Bangalore as an Advisor and served for 18 months.
Presently he was working as Advisor to Indya Comics.
Rajendra Kumar has also won several awards including Aryabhata Award, Indira Priyadarshini Award, Ranganathan-Kaula Librarian Award, Government of Karnataka's Best Librarian Award and others.
