Chana prices went up by 1.43 per cent to Rs 4,894 per quintal in futures trade today as participants enlarged positions, driven by rising demand in the spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in January next year moved up by Rs 69, or 1.43 per cent, to Rs 4,894 per quintal with an open interest of 26,060 lots.

On similar lines, the commodity for delivery in December was trading higher by Rs 55, or 1.12 per cent, to Rs 4,945 per quintal in 21,410 lots.

Analysts said widening of positions by traders following rising demand in the spot market against restricted supplies from producing regions mainly led to the rise in chana prices at futures trade.
