River festival likely to be govt function, says OPS

The Tamil Nadu government would consider celebrating the 'Tamirabharani River Pushkaram Festival' as a government function, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam said today.
Speaking to reporters here, the Deputy Chief Minister said the Pushkaram Festival, dedicated to worshipping the rivers, is to be held for Tamirabharani from October 12 to 23. The pushkaram in Tamirabharani is celebrated once in 144 years.
Earlier, he took part in the 303rd birth anniversary celebrations of freedom fighter Pulithevan and paid homage to him at his memorial near here.
