: The Social Welfare Department has announced a special grant package for the district to set up new hostels and to renovate existing ones.
Under this special grant package of Rs 204.50 crore for Bellary district, 23 new hostels will be opened, Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya told reporters here.
He said existing hostels will also be renovated, adding all works under this package will be completed in 18 months.

Stating that a nodal officer would be appointed to oversee work undertaken under the package, the minister said CCTV cameras would be installed in the hostels and women staff appointed at women's hostels.
Anjenaya said 3,000 positions are lying vacant in the department across the state and would be filled up as soon as possible.
