African nation Rwanda's flag carrier RwandAir today commenced its services from India with a direct flight from here to capital city Kigali.
RwandAir will operate flight services on the Mumbai-Kigali-Mumbai sector four times a week with a Boeing 737-800 aircraft in two cabin class -- business and economy -- a release said today.
The Government had in February approved signing of an Air Services Agreement (ASA) between India and Rwanda to allow the airlines of the two countries to operate services in each others territory.
According to the release, passenger traffic and trade between Mumbai and Africa has always been significant with eight lakh passengers travelling between the island city and Africa, growing at eight per cent annually, in the last calender year.
The non-stop air connectivity will not only increase tourism but will also enhance business opportunities, strengthening the relationship between the two nations, it said.
Mumbai's strategic geographical positioning acts as a major transfer hub for passengers between South East Asia and Africa, the release added.
