Yet another alleged incident of sacrilege came to light today at Kalanaur area here in Punjab, a state which was recently rocked by a series of protests over such cases.

A special investigation team has been formed under the supervision of SP Satpal Singh Bhangu to probe the incident, officials said.

The incident came to the fore when two women Lakhwinder Kaur and Amarjit Kaur allegedly found torn pages of Sikh religious book (Gutka Sahib) on the Adalatpur road at about 5:30 am today during morning walk.

"Initially these ladies thought that these were some ordinary pages. But then they realized that these were pages of Gutka Sahib," Gurdaspur Deputy Commissioner Abhinav Trikha said.

As people came to know about it, tension gripped the district. Sikh agitators blocked the Batala-Kalanaur road to protest against the incident and to demand action against the culprits for the heinous act.

"There was strong resentment among people about this incident," said the DC.

Gurdaspur Deputy Commissioner along with SSP and other officials met the Sikh protesters who had blocked the Batala-Kalanaur road, demanding arrest of culprits.

"A case has been registered here and SIT has been formed to investigate the matter," Trikha said.

Punjab has recently been rocked by a series of protests over a number of desecration incidents taking place in the state starting with Bargari at Faridkot last month.

During one protest, two people were killed in clashes between agitationists and police.

Punjab government yesterday handed over to CBI the probe of the sacrilege incident at Faridkot and the subsequent killing of two persons in police firing.
