Samastha Kerala Jam'iyyathul Ulama leader passes away

Samastha Kerala (All Kerala) Jam'iyyathul Ulama president A P Muhammed Musaliyar died at a private hospital in Palakkad today, family sources said.

The 78-year-old leader of the religious organisation of Sunni Muslim scholors and clerics was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday morning following uneasiness and breathed his last around 12.45 am today, the sources said.

He is survived by wife Fathima and 14 children.

Born in 1942 in Pallikannu Kumaramputhur of Mannarkad in Palakkad district, Musaliyar became a member of Samastha Kerala Jam'iyyathul Ulama's supreme body and the working committee called "Mushawara" in 1995.

He was elected as the Vice-President of the largest Muslim faction in Kerala in 2012 and in June this year became its ninth President.
