North Delhi Mayor Adesh Gupta today inaugurated a sanitary napkin vending machine at a school in central Delhi and said this would help girls and women in maintaining their health and hygiene, officials said.

The machine was installed at R M Arya Girls Senior Secondary School in Connaught Place in partnership with a research foundation and state-run oil major.

The mission of the CSR Research Foundation is to spread awareness on women's well-being, hygiene and menstrual health, the NDMC said in a statement.

Mayor Gupta said this would educate girls and women on their health, and spread awareness among schoolchildren.

Chairman of the foundation, D D Agarwal, said their organisation is promoting women's health, gender sensitivity and empowerment through their mission -- 'AAA Awareness, Availability and Affordability'.

He said that with the support of the state-run firm, the foundation, a non-profit organisation, has installed 80 such vending machines across the city.
