Ban orders under Section 144 of CrPC have been clamped in the district between 11 pm and 5 AM on all days from today till the completion of the electoral process for the May 16 assembly elections.
An official release said it had been brought to the knowledge of authorities that attempts were being made to undertake political campaigning beyond the permissible limit of 10 PM besides complaints regarding distribution of cash, kind and liquor by unknown persons, which may cause violation of model code of conduct.
Hence the district administration had enforced the section 144 banning assemblage of five or more persons in public places between 11 PM and 5 AM on all days from today till the completion of the general elections to the Puducherry assembly, it said.
