About 2,000 artists from across the country will converge at Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts campus to showcase India's cultural heritage through performances, arts and cuisines during the 10-day 'Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav'.

The second edition of the cultural festival will start on October 15 and end on October 24.

"The festival aims to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the country in all its rich and varied diversity such as handicrafts, cuisine, painting, sculpture, photography, documentation and performing arts like folk, tribal, classical and contemporary all in one place," Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma told a press conference here.

He said Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav (RSM) in Delhi is one the five such festival planned for this financial year which would be organised at multiple venues, including Varanasi, Bangalore and Jammu and Kashmir, from November 15 to 25.

The seven zonal cultural centre, which covers the whole country, are given slots to present their arts during the festival, he said, urging people to come to the event to "know the country, its culture, arts and cuisines".

Culture Secretary N K Sinha said as many as 1,400-2,000 artists are expected to participate in the event which intends to provide a central stage to performers in the far-off villages.

He said people would be able to witness the amalgamation of 'Ek Bharat Sretha Bharat', 'Hamaari Sanskriti Hamaari Pahchaan' and 'Swachh India' during the festival.

In August, the government had organised a similar mega event -- Bharat Parv -- in the heart of the national capital at Rajpath to celebrate India's Independence and promote the spirit of patriotism among citizens.
