'Seven' Famous documentary play on women comes to Delhi

A documentary play based on the lives of seven women around the world, who have fought for women's rights and raised voices against violence and oppression is set to be staged here.
"SEVEN", is a play that has been performed throughout the globe since 2006, including the European Union Parliament in Brussels and in New York, where Hillary Clinton introduced the play and Oscar winning Actress Meryl Streep portrayed one of the seven characters.
The Delhi show is part of the celebrations to mark the chapter of the 'Women's International Networking (WIN)' conference, an independent global leadership organisation inspiring women, that began here today.
The world wide acclaimed documentary theatre is based on interviews of seven women and created by award winning playwrights.
The Delhi performance will see Kristin Engvig, the founder and CEO of WIN along with other participants including founder of renowned NGOs.

"Connecting development ideas for women, inculcating integral value, feminine values and encourage authentic contribution to global awareness is what we are aiming for Indian chapter," said Kristin Engvig.
One of the characters in the play is Marina Pisklakova-Parker of Russia who founded hotline for victims of domestic violence and rescued many in distress with the help of authorities.
Another character is Mu Sochua, co-nominated in 2005 for the Nobel Peace Prize is the former Minister of Women's Affairs in Cambodia. She worked against sex trafficking of women in Cambodia and neighbouring Thailand.
Annabella De Leon Guatemala is another inspiration who raised herself and her family out of poverty by getting an education and fought against corruption, particularly women and indigenous peoples.
Inez McCormack from Northern Ireland is the character portrayed by Meryl Streep in the New York play. Inez is an activist for women's and human rights, labour, and social justice and a former President of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.
Farida Azizi of Afghanistan became an activist fighting the marginalisation of women under Taliban rule.
Hafsat Abiola of Nigeria, an advocate for human rights and democracy following the murder of her activist parents, founded the Kudirat Initiative for Democracy, which provides skills-training and leadership opportunities for young women across Nigeria.
Mukhtar Mai of Pakistan is the seventh character in the play. Mukhtar shot to prominence after she stood up to the men who gang raped her on the orders of a village council in Pakistan's Punjab province nearly a decade ago. She became an advocate for education in her country.
