Seven policemen were suspended for alleged connivance with bootleggers in Neb Sarai area where a man died after consuming illicit liquor.

Those placed under suspension include two sub-inspectors -- Pankaj Thakran and Vijay Kasana, two head constables -- Virandra and Vijay and three constables -- Mahesh, Mukesh and Sandeep.

According to a senior Delhi police official, the men were suspended after locals complained that sale of illegal liquor was rampant in the area and the bootleggers were operating in connivance of these police personnel.

A middle-aged man, who was suffering from jaundice, consumed liquor bought from a local bootlegger and died after a few hours.

After his family members and locals protested alleging that the beat police officers were hand in glove with liquor smugglers who brought illegal liquor from Haryana, a probe was ordered and the seven policemen were placed under suspension on Saturday, said a police official.
